That's what I always thought too. I'm pretty sure that's what I learned in second grade, and it's definitely a habit that I can't break. But recently I've heard that that practice is old fashioned, and no longer recommended.
And since SMS messages have a 160 character limit and, I'm told, twitter has a 140 character limit, I can see why it could be good to only use one.
But other than SMS, I just stick with my standard two spaces, and I probably always will.
Putting two spaces after the sentence is definately outdated. I never learned that in school - I only heard it from dad once when it was wayyy too late to break me of the one space habit. That's what I think at least. Plus none of my profs ever yell at me for only having one space.
